6012WashingtonRenderingNorthterra Real Estate Group LLC received approval from the Mount Pleasant plan commission to begin site planning for a strip mall, which include a Firehouse Subs shop.

The project received approval at a meeting held Wednesday.

Developer Lee Jaramillo presented plans to build a 7,000 square-foot building, which will be anchored by Firehouse Subs located at 5012 Washington Ave.

Jaramillo, of Caledonia, will own the building. The property currently has an oil change/gas station operating on the site. Once Jaramillo has the building pre-leased, the plan is to start constructing the new building.

“We’re actively pre-leasing for the rest of the space and we hope close by end of year,” Jaramillo said. “We have a couple of agreements out to tenants, but no commitments as of yet. But we’re looking at a quick service restaurant, cell phone retail outlet, and haircut place.”

Lee’s brother, Jason Jaramillo, owns the franchise rights for Firehouse Subs for Racine, Kenosha, and Oak Creek. Jason and Lee, who graduated from Case High School, both played professional baseball. Lee said that one of the reasons why Jason bought into the franchise was because of the community mindedness of the company, which was started by firefighters.

“They are a community driven retailer and they give back to local firefighters and police, so the tie into community was big for us because we’re also big on our community and we’d like to lend a helping hand when we can,” Lee said.

The building project is expected to be completed in August 2015.
