Jackie Johnson, a loved and respected member of the J.I. Case High School community, passed away Monday from cancer.

On his Facebook wall, former Eagle Trevor Jung posted this eulogy for Johnson:

Yesterday we lost someone who was a major part of our high school experience. She opened the doors for students to start their day and watched over them in the hallway always with a smile. She was a respected and loved member of the Case community. Everyone knew Jackie was there for them. She will be missed.

Other Case students and grads quickly added their thoughts.

“She was such an amazing woman and always so caring,” Stephanie Zinda wrote.

Mitchel Orlovsky echoed Jung, saying, “(Jackie) was so nice to everyone. She always said good morning to me.”

Devin Smrekar appreciated that Johnson treated students with respect.

“(She was the) nicest lady in the entire school … she always cared about every single person and loved to have a conversation with anyone,” he wrote. “So likeable. Heaven received a beautiful angel.”

A written statement from the Case High School Counseling Department was distributed to teachers Tuesday to read to their classes after a school-wide announcement was made and a moment of silence was observed:

It is with great sadness that we share with you all the passing of our dearest staff member, Hall Monitor Jackie Johnson, after her long and courageous battle with cancer.  Jackie was always ready to help and support us all.  With a welcoming smile on her face, she encouraged students to get to class and do the right thing.  Her generous spirit will be missed.

Counselors were available for students and staff as well.
