Update: The Kraut Fest Committee had planned on addressing the Joint Parks Commission at its meeting set for Thursday, Jan. 22. However, the agenda item has been taken off because the group needs to firm up some details for the event. Organizers expect to have it back on the agenda sometime in early February. Original story: After a 12-year hiatus, Kraut Fest may return to the Caledonia and Mount Pleasant Memorial Park this summer if the Joint Park Commission approves the proposal at its meeting on Thursday.
The Kraut Fest Committee has been working on planning the event, which would be held June 18 through June 21, since October. Kraut Fest is expected to generate more revenue for the park and help bring larger events to the park grounds.
If approved, the event will feature two music stages, a carnival midway, food tents that will feature sauerkraut, antique tractor show, local vendors, fireworks, a kraut queen contest, and kraut eating contest.
The Kraut Fest Committee won’t be using taxpayer money to fund the festival, but they expect that vendor fees and revenue from the event will offset the cost of putting on the event.
