When a children’s play area for Regency Mall was proposed over a year ago, feedback was mostly positive, but the lack of sponsors means the plans are a no-go.

The Junior League of Racine told The Journal Times the indoor play area is on indefinite hold because no one stepped forward to sponsor it.

“We thought it was great because it fits our mission for children,” League President Dawn Knutson is quoted as saying.

The play area would have consisted of an activity center with a distinct nautical theme based on Lake Michigan with equipment to play on like a boat, a lighthouse and a large rock featuring a seagull. The play area would have been built in the open area near Boston Store.

Sean Phillips from CBL & Associates Properties – owners of the mall – said the opportunity for a play area still exists, and he welcomes conversation with anyone interesting in helping make it happen, the story continues. The Junior League of Racine is no longer attached to the project.
