Mount Pleasant Police confirmed that a 23-year-old Racine man died Tuesday afternoon after the motorcycle he was operating crashed into an SUV at the intersection of Highways 31 and 38.

MPPD and Caledonia Police were called at 2:39 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and two other vehicles.

Mount Pleasant police were on scene within two minutes, and an off-duty paramedic from Erikson Ambulance was also on scene. Together they attempted life-saving measures for the motorcycle operator, but he died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.

The man’s name is being withheld until his family can be notified.

Officers believe a 69-year-old woman driving an SUV was traveling north on Highway 31 when she executed a left turn onto Highway 38. The motorcycle was traveling south and collided with the SUV.

The impact of the collision forced the motorcycle to crash into another vehicle, this one stopped at the red light in the eastbound lanes.

Police say the female driver was transported to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary’s for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was uninjured.

Traffic in all directions was shut down for several hours while investigators with the police departments and Wisconsin State Patrol conducted a crash reconstruction.
