A 44-year-old Racine man is in custody, facing charges of strangulation, battery and disorderly conduct after he was accused of choking his girlfriend during an argument over her daughter’s birthday on Dec. 10.
Racine County Eye is not naming the man, to avoid identifying the woman and her daughter, who called for help when she saw her mother under attack.
According to the criminal complaint filed in Racine County Circuit Court this month, police were called to the 800 block of 12th Street in Racine at 4:46 p.m. Dec. 10. The woman told police her boyfriend assaulted her, but had left before police got there.
She told officers that her boyfriend was upset because he wanted to go drinking instead of celebrating her daughter’s birthday. He yelled at her when he couldn’t get into the bedroom immediately, saying “You better move out of my way before your kids see me beat (you),” the complaint states.
The woman then told her daughter to get her phone and call the police if needed.
After that, the woman told police her boyfriend grabbed her by the neck and pushed her against the wall. When she tried to get away he pushed her against the wall again, and threw her to the floor.
The woman said she lost consciousness for one or two minutes, and that she woke up on the floor, coughing, with her children trying to wake her up.
The girl told police the boyfriend left right after incident.
