Area residents are invited to a special tribute and ceremony Sunday to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
“Moving Forward: Lessons Learned,” is scheduled from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Racine County Fairgrounds on Durand Avenue in Union Grove.
The program at the Grand Stand will include a color guard with bagpipes and drummers will follow and stand in formation until uniformed personnel led by the Knights of Columbus are in place. Everyone gathered will be asked to stand so the final participants – a truck carrying a flag-draped casket honoring the police and fire personnel who died on 9/11 – can enter the area.
The ceremony will then get underway and close with a prayer before those in uniform file out followed by the casket and the flag with the names of the deceased on it.
