Volunteers were busy at Piggly Piggly Wiggly Washington Ave filling and wrapping boxes for Santa In A Shoebox. Diana Higgenbottom is stunned by the outpouring of generosity. “I think we beat last year, and I never thought we’d get that high to begin with,” she said. Santa donations last year came to 600 boxes. Estimates this year are trending toward 700. Volunteers will finish wrapping Thursday for distribution on Friday for students and over the weekend to other agencies and individuals.

Love what we do?

In addition to our education features, we’ll be kicking off a series of stories highlighting how parents, students, and educators are adapting to the impact of COVID-19 on education.
