Mount Pleasant police and rescue crews from South Shore Fire Department were called to Malicki’s Piggly Wiggly Thursday for two shoplifting incidents that ended with suspects going to the hospital.
Store security told Racine County Eye that two people were caught in two separate incidents trying to steal merchandise from Piggly Wiggly, 5201 Washington Avenue.
Both incidents took place at around 12:40 p.m.
One suspect is a white male, 48, who tried to steal bottles of liquor. He suffered a diabetic episode and was transported to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary’s for treatment.
The second suspect is a 42-year-old white female who tried to steal liquor and 17 other items by hiding the merchandise in her purse. She swallowed an unknown quantity of pills believed to be hydrocodone to hide evidence, store security said. The woman was also taken to the hospital.
No one else was hurt during the incidents.
