Two people were seriously injured Friday morning when one driver turned left into oncoming traffic on Highway 31.
Mount Pleasant police and South Shore rescue were called to the intersection of Highway 31 and Margery Drive at 10:30 a.m. Friday for a report of an accident. When officers arrived on scene, witnesses told them a black, Kia Sportage “crossed over the median into oncoming traffic.”
Police determined that the Kia driver – Michelle Peters, 69, of Mount Pleasant – was northbound on Green Bay Road when she attempted a left turn in front of oncoming traffic. She was hit by Evan-Michael Olison, 21, of Racine, who was driving a red, Buick Century.
Both drivers were transported to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary’s with serious injuries.
MPPD Sgt. Jason Vaccaro wrote in a written statement that alcohol and drugs were a factor in this accident. The incident remains under investigation by both MPPD and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
