Racine Police Department officers responded to Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints Wednesday for a domestic abuse report after a woman said her husband beat and choked her after they got home from a party.
Frederick Platt, 43, the man who may have triggered a police standoff Wednesday as described on RacineUncovered News, remains in the Racine County Jail after being charged Friday with substantial battery – domestic abuse assessments and strangulation and suffocation – domestic abuse assessments. If convicted, he faces 9-1/2 years in prison and/or up to $20,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, Platt and his wife attended a party Wednesday night. Because he was intoxicated, the woman said she would drive, and when Platt refused to get in the car and started yelling and swearing at her, she left without him.
The couple didn’t live far from the party, and police say the woman was letting their dog out with Platt arrived home. A loud argument ensued, and the woman started recording the incident on her cell phone. The situation did escalate, and Platt punched a hole in a wall while he continued to yell at the woman.
Platt then punched the woman, pulled her hair and dragged her into the garage where he also choked her into unconsciousness, the complaint reads. Eventually the woman was able to get away and run to a neighbor’s house for help, and that person took the woman to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Officers say hospital staff told them the woman would need surgery to repair her broken nose and stitches to close a wound on the bridge of her nose.
Platt was given a $15,000 cash bond at his initial appearance Friday, according to online court records. His preliminary hearing is Dec. 26.
