Lutheran Social Services of Racine County will receive almost $50,000 from as part of the STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant Victim Services program through the state Department of Justice.
Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen in a statement announced that 11 agencies across the state will get a portion of a total of $560,920.
“We know many cases of domestic violence go unreported,” Van Hollen said in the release. “The services enabled by these grants and provided by the dedicated professionals who serve victims are critical – they help victims recover and rebuild their lives but also ensure the criminal justice process moves forward to hold offenders accountable and prevent further violence.”
According to Van Hollen’s statement, Lutheran Social Services of Racine County will use $49,504 to serve Hispanic/Latina victims:
“This project allows for the provision of bilingual (Spanish/English) advocacy services to Hispanic/Latina sexual assault victims in Racine County. These services include personal, medical, family and legal advocacy, as well community awareness and outreach.”
VAWA is a federally funded program established in 1994 with the goal of keeping women and their children safe while providing their short- and long-term needs and holding their attackers accountable.
