Police lightsA 29-year-old Caledonia woman faces a felony charge of theft after she took a Chevrolet Silverado that had been up for sale in Racine, according to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.

A Racine man put his 1996 Chevrolet Silverado truck up a for sale when the woman posed as an interested buyer at 1:50 p.m. on March 9, 2012 in the 3700 block of Durand Avenue, according to the criminal complaint filed by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.

The woman told the owner of the truck that she wanted to take it for a test drive and never returned the truck. The owner then called the police after she never returned with it.

A week later, an officer with the Racine Police Department discovered that the truck had been scrapped at Sturtevant Auto Salvage by the woman. The truck had already been dismantled and sold for parts, but the vehicle was recovered. The owner’s daughter, who works for the Racine County Court System, contacted the Racine Police Department after a woman had been arrested and charged in a similar case as her father’s.

Showing her family the photo of the woman involved in the case, they identified the woman from a photograph as being the same woman who they believe took the truck.

In August, a warrant was issued for the woman’s arrest. The woman, who was in court on Jan. 17, has her initial appearance scheduled for Jan. 24.
