Police lightsJeremy Gruener, 33, of Burlington, was charged with a felony count of theft from a business setting greater than $5,000 to $10,000 by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.

If convicted, Gruener faces up to six years in prison and fines up to $10,000.

According to the criminal complaint, a homeowner living in the 6100 block of Bel Mar Avenue told police he wanted to get a roof put on his house. The man’s stepson told his stepfather about Gruener, a contractor who owned a company called Big Boy Builders LLC.

Gruener quoted the homeowner $5,200 to do the job, the homeowner wrote Gruener a check to do the work and Gruener didn’t show up to do the job. When police tried to reach him, they discovered that Gruener had moved to Burlington but they were unable to reach him.

Gruener is expected to have a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Feb. 12 at the Racine County Courthouse.
