Racine police are actively investigating the shooting of a 55-year-old woman early Tuesday morning.

RPD Sgt. Jessie Metoyer said in a written statement that a woman was shot in her vehicle at 6:41 a.m. Officer were originally responding to calls of an assault, but when police arrived on scene, they found the wounded victim.
The woman was reportedly conscious and alert. She was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for treatment after first being transported to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary’s.
Our friends at Racine Uncovered are reporting that investigators are still on scene and there is another large police presence with K9 officers at Summit and State.
“This is an open and on-going investigation,” Metoyer said in the statement.
