Power has been fully restored for more than 4,200 We Energies customers in Racine County east of I-94. All affected customers were back online by 2:55 p.m.

According to Cathy Schulze, a utility spokesperson, a blown circuit breaker at a substation was the culprit.

At 1:20, customers located primarily along Washington Avenue from Emmertsen Road west to I-94 lost power. Stoplights and businesses – including Case High School – are affected, and as of 2:10, a cause had not yet been determined.

“We don’t know what caused it, but we can confirm there are crews in the area tracing the issue,” utility spokesperson Brian Manthey said about an hour after the outage was reported.

The person who answered the phone at Racine Unified said Case students were released at the end of the day as usual, and after-school activities are going on as scheduled. The schools phones were forwarded to the district office because of the power outage.
