City employees who work in City Hall might have gotten an unexpected day off Wednesday after asbestos was discovered on the third floor of the building Tuesday,
But, after the area was cleaned late Tuesday night and tests early Wednesday indicated all was clear, employees were allowed back to work.
The asbestos was being removed as part of an on-going abatement project, according to a story in The Journal Times.
Mayor John Dickert told the newspaper that the total amount discovered only comes to about 2 percent, but even that’s too high to allow any employees back into the building until the asbestos is fully contained and cleaned up.
An announcement on the city’s website informed employees and visitors that City Hall was closed and to stay tuned for updates.
Committee meetings originally scheduled for Tuesday night met instead Wednesday at the City Hall Annex.
Update:
CITY HALL IS OPEN
Employees please report to work at your normal shift start time.
Results of air quality testing came back NEGATIVE, there is no further danger.
