New jobs might be headed our way once the first building is completed this year in a new, 60-acre business park in Mount Pleasant.
Land and Lakes Development Company from Park Ridge, IL, has plans to build a first, 132,000 square foot spec building at the southeast corner of Highways 20 and V. All told, the new business park could include four or more buildings with over 800,000 total square feet.
Village trustees approved the development of a new business park in January with a 4-3 vote. Jenny Trick from the Racine County Economic Development Corporation told Racine County Eye at the time that the business park and potential new buildings are good news for the area.
A press release from RCEDC Tuesday confirmed the need for more available building space in Racine County.
“RCEDC has identified this shortage of Business Park land and buildings as a priority to be addressed in 2014,” Gordy Kacala, former executive director of RCEDC, said.
Martin Hanley, president of Land and Lakes, told Racine County Eye in January that a lot of research had gone into choosing Mount Pleasant.
“We did a lot of research up and down the corridor there along I-94,” he said at the time. “In the end, Mount Pleasant offered the best location and had the amenities and utilities we need. The cooperation of the village and the people there was also a big factor.”
The new building is expected to begin later this spring, and a tenant is expected to set up shop by the end of the year. Who that tenant could be and what type of operation they might run has not yet been determined.
