Racine police are warning residents to take precautions when answering ads on Craigslist to buy cars.

Our friends at Racine Uncovered are reporting that three incidents in the last two weeks all involved individuals going to meet someone selling a car. In each instance, at least one suspect was armed with a handgun, and all reports originated on the southwest side of the city. One reported incident occurred at 2 a.m.

According to a press release from RPD Sgt. Jessie Metoyer, these “robberies by appointment” most often involve persons from out of town driving in to answer an ad for a car for sale.

Police are urging citizens to take precautions like meeting at a police station or in another public location, conduct business during the day and to always bring a friend.
