Thank you to both Naida Smith-Keech and Erika Minna Weitkuhn for the photos of crews taking down the Mitchell school gym Wednesday, nearly two weeks after a fire devastated students, staff, and faculty.

Elementary students will attend Wind Point Elementary for the rest of the year, and middle school students are due back Monday at Mitchell after getting an extra week of spring break. Middle school students will have extended days through the end of the year to make up for the missed time.

Several supply drives have been organized throughout the community to help replace a variety of items teachers and students lost in the fire. Racine Unified spokesperson Stacy Tapp said the elementary school seems to be on solid footing, but a list from the middle school won’t be available until class resumes Monday.

“After Monday, when the middle school teachers get back into their classrooms, we may have a better idea of what they need,” she said.
