Help raise money for the students at Mitchell Elementary and Mitchell Middle School by participating in a bowling fundraiser from 1 to 3 p.m. March 29 at Castle Lanes, 5615 Castle Court.
A fire ripped through the gym and the roof collapsed in the early morning hours on Feb. 27. The gym was torn down earlier this week.
Jennifer Garibay, who used to teach at Mitchell Middle School, came up with the idea of having a bowling fundraiser for Mitchell Elementary and Mitchell Middle School because she wanted to bring the community together to help the students. Her goal is to help raise $2,000 for Mitchell Elementary and $2,000 for Mitchell Middle School.
“While a lot of the items will be replaced by the insurance company, there were a lot of supplies in the classrooms that the teachers had bought themselves that were damaged in the fire,” Garibay said.
Garibay’s daughter also went to Mitchell and when she taught there, she felt like the school was her family.
“Usually fundraisers are for adults, but I was thinking that if the kids themselves could come and have a good time by getting their frustration out by throwing the ball around, that would be good,” she said. “Also, it would be really good for us to come together as a community… and at the same time we can celebrate the new school.”
The cost for the fundraiser is $20 per person, which includes three games of bowling, shoe rental, hot dogs, chips and soda. A 50/50 raffle and silent auction will also be held. Those who donate a school supply, make a cash donation or donate a gift card will receive five tickets for the 50/50 raffle.
Otherwise each raffle ticket is $5 a piece or 3 for $10. Every half hour a raffle ticket will be pulled.
Garibay is also looking for silent auction donations and volunteers. If interested in donating or volunteering, please call Jennifer at (262) 498-6650.
