56aeb617e1f45935151ce33fd0dc63beCaledonia resident and entrepreneur Sherry Lou Martin is launching a Kickstarter campaign to help take her shattered glass fireplace cover business to the next level.

She plans to use the money raised from the Kickstarter campaign to gain the energy rating and produce a commercial to support the claims of energy savings.

“I want my customers to feel confident that the claims we make are  truthful,” Martin said. “I know that my fireplace covers will save people a lot of money on their heating bills and that is a plus all the time, especially after the hard winter we have just gone through.”

Martin uses a process similar to mosaic, but she uses shattered tempered glass and paint to put a pretty face on a useful, energy efficient cover that prevents fireplaces from being drafty old things. And because she uses items like the doors off of refrigerators used in grocery stores and old picture frames, she keeps those items out of landfills – something she calls up-cycling.

Martin received a patent in 2012 from the US Patent office for her decorative fireplace covers six years after she designed the first one.

The Kickstarter for Energy Saving Shattered Glass Fireplace Covers Campaign started April 8 and will end May 15.
