Mount Pleasant policeA Racine man crashed his car into an SUV, then left the scene, according to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.

Keith Garafalo, 37, was charged with hit and run – injury by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office on April 10. If convicted, Garafalo faces up to nine months in jail and/or fines up to $10,000.

According to the criminal complaint, Mount Pleasant Police responded to a report of a hit and run car crash at 6:27 p.m. Feb. 16  at the intersection of Highway KR and Wood Road.

The driver of a 2012 Ford Escape told police that she was stopped at a stop sign on Wood Road waiting to to turn right when Garafalo, who was driving a station wagon type vehicle, crashed into the back of the Ford Escape. The passenger got out to check on injuries and exchange insurance information, but Garafalo allegedly fled the scene.

Garafalo told police that he left the scene because the passenger appeared to be yelling and swearing at him. He said he made a mistake in not reporting the crash.

Both the driver and the passenger complained of neck injuries, but both refused rescue.
