Clifford the alligator’s head was returned after it was found on the front porch Gifford Elementary principal Leslie Hunt’s front porch around midnight on Sunday. Vandals removed the school mascot’s head from a statue outside the school on March 26.
According to officials with the Caledonia Police Department, the head had extensive damage as one of its eyes was cut off and part of its mouth was removed.
“The head was released to Hunt,” according to statement by Lt. Brian Wall. “It is unknown who placed the head on the porch.”

Original Story: A statue of an alligator that serves as the mascot of Gifford Elementary School, 8332 Northwestern Ave., was vandalized sometime overnight Tuesday.
Officials with the Caledonia Police Department are searching for suspects who removed and took the head off of a statue of Clifford the Gator.
According to officials with the Caledonia Police Department, this isn’t the first time Clifford has been vandalized. The same thing happened in 2005 and after being reported by various media sources, the head was returned.
