Racine police say a 29-year-old Sturtevant man is facing charges after he allegedly slashed the tires of his ex-wife and injured a officer in a separate incident.
Racine County Eye is not naming the man to protect the identity of the alleged victim in the tire case.
According to online court records, the man was charged Wednesday in Racine County Circuit Court with a single misdemeanor count of criminal damage of property, domestic abuse assessments. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in jail and/or up to $10,000 in fines.
The man’s criminal complaint says that Racine police were called March 22 to a residence in the 2400 block of 19th Street for a report from a woman who said her ex-husband slashed her tires and broke out the tail light of her vehicle. The woman told officers she’d seen her ex-husband walking through the parking lot, get into his vehicle and drive away.
On March 21, the woman obtained a temporary restraining order against the man, but he had not yet been served.
Additionally, the man faces a felony charge of resisting an officer/causing soft tissue injury and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct, domestic abuse assessment charges. If convicted of these charges, he faces up to six years, three months in jail and/or up to $11,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, officers were called to a home in the 1300 block of Superior Street Tuesday from a relative who said the man wouldn’t leave their home. When police arrived, the man refused to leave the residence but finally complied.
Police say the man continued to be disruptive and when officers tried to escort him from the home, the man pulled the officers down a flight of stairs, injuring the knee of one of the officers.
The man remains in the Racine County Jail on a $400 cash bond for the criminal damage charge and $1000 cash bond for the resisting and disorderly conduct charges. His next court date for the property damage case is May 1, and his preliminary hearing on the felony charge is April 24.
