_DSC3085Caledonia residents Ken and Tiffany LaVigne opened Happy Tails Pet Supplies, 5200 Douglas Ave., because they saw the benefit of using holistic and traditional preventative medicine with their own dogs.

The shop offers pet foods for dogs and cats that are made with natural and holistic ingredients, pet supplies, treats and toys, grooming supplies and some pet-centric human items like jewelry._DSC3098

The couple also realized how much of a “pet rich area” Caledonia is and they wanted to apply that knowledge in helping others. So the store offers a variety of types of foods, raw, dehydrated, dry, canned and kibble. They also have fish oils, pre- and pro-biotic foods, flea and tick products and grooming items.

“We want to help support the community in finding the supplies they need for their pets to live a healthy lifestyle,” Ken said. “And with our own experience, we realize that there is a huge need.”

_DSC3092Ken and Tiffany own three Boston Terriers, two of which were rescue dogs and they needed special diets because they had allergies. They also ended up working with traditional and holistic veterinarians to come up with a healthy diet to mitigate their digestion issues.

“So this is our first venture into retail and it’s our passion,” Tiffany said. “We realized how much knowledge we’ve gained from our own experiences with good nutrition and good animal products, and we want to share that.”

The shop will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
