A 50-year-old man lost part of his leg after he was involved in a motorcycle vs car accident at 12:25 Saturday afternoon.

Sturtevant police Chief Sean Marschke told Racine County Eye Sunday that the man lost his injured leg from the knee down.

South Shore Fire Battalion Chief Steve Salvo could only confirm Saturday that the man suffered a significant injury to his leg and was taken by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for treatment. Salvo did say the injury was not considered life-threatening.

Marschke said the man was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Durand Avenue in front of Blain’s Farm & Fleet when a woman driving a car exited the parking lot and turned in front of the man.

The female driver of the car was transported to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary’s for treatment.

Sturtevant and Mount Pleasant police responded to the scene with crews from SSFD, who determined FFL was needed. MPPD assisted with reconstruction of the crash scene, Marschke said.

A source with the police department told Racine County Eye the foot on the man’s injured leg may have been amputated.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash, but the driver of the car will probably be cited for failure to yield.
