Mount Pleasant police say a 17-year-old boy is facing adult charges after he punched a woman in the face because she insisted he go to school.
Jon DeRosier had his initial appearance postponed Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court so a sign language interpreter could be obtained. He will face Wednesday three counts of misdemeanor bail jumping and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. If convicted, he faces up to 30 months in jail and/or up to $31,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, officers were called Monday to a residence in the 5600 block of Heather Way for a report of an assault. When police arrived, a woman told them that DeRosier had attacked her after she attempted to wake him for school.
Officers say DeRosier punched the woman twice in the face and swung his backpack at her before leaving the residence to go to school. When police questioned the defendant at Case High School, he tried to tell them that the woman tripped him and cut his legs with a serrated knife.
Police determined that DeRosier inflicted the wounds on himself using a plastic hair trimmer found in his backpack. They took him into custody and transported him to the Racine County Jail, the complaint reads.
DeRosier remained in jail as of Monday night, according to online inmate records. His rescheduled initial appearance is Wednesday.
