One person was sent to the hospital after a motorcycle vs car accident Tuesday evening at the East Frontage Road and Durand Avenue.

Mount Pleasant police say officers and rescue units from South Shore Fire Department were called at 5:05 p.m. Monday for an accident involving injuries near the Park ‘n Ride on Durand Avenue. Dispatch reported the operator of the motorcycle was in the ditch on the south side of Highway 11 but was wearing a helmet.

The crash was between a 2012 Honda Civic Coupe and a 200 Suzuki VZ800.

When officers arrived, SSFD crews were treating the motorcycle operator for his injuries. He was transported to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary’s for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The female driver was headed southbound on the frontage road and was pulling out onto Durand Avenue when the accident happened. She was cited for Failure to Yield based both on her own statements to police that “the motorcycle appeared out of nowhere” and witnesses who stayed on scene to give statements.

The driver of the car did suffer an injury to her face from the airbag in her vehicle deploying, but she refused transport. SSFD examined and treated her at the scene.
