Claire Weyers Receives scholarship from Junior League of Racine

Washington Park graduate Claire Weyers is getting a little extra help with her college education thanks to her dedication to her community.

The Junior League of Racine announced Friday that Weyers has been awarded a $1,000 2014 Volunteerism in the Racine Community scholarship, according to a press release from the organization.

Weyers has been a Youth as Resources (YAR) Board member since 8th grade, including a term as Board Chair. She was also donated many hours volunteering at many school and community events, and she earned the President’s Volunteer Service Award both in 2013 and 2014.

She will attend Marquette University this fall and plans to major in business with a minor in political science.

Waterford Union High School graduate Catrice Vukodinovich was also named a scholarship winner. League Community Impact Chair Colleen Andersen noted that one of Vukodinovich’s projects was funded by a grant from Weyers’ YAR program.

“We congratulate these fine volunteers, who were chosen through a blind judging process by Junior League partners in our community.  We were particularly pleased to note that their efforts united when Catrice’s Gold project was funded in part by a grant from YAR during Claire’s leadership term,” she said.

Vukodinovich will attend UW-Stout in the fall. She will major in Graphic Design and Interactive Media and minor in Business Administration and Spanish.
