Traffic patterns are changing downtown in order to make way for 4th of July celebrations including the parade down Main Street and annual fireworks.
Restrictions begin at 12:00 a.m. Friday and end at 11:59 p.m. Friday.
Racine police released a list of restrictions that will affect how residents get around the downtown area:
- 24-hour parking ban near North Beach in the area bordered by North Main Street, Goold Street, Michigan Blvd., and Dodge Street.
- Dodge St. east from N. Main Street will become one-way eastbound traffic.
• Michigan Blvd. will be one-way northbound traffic between Dodge and Goold St.
• Goold St. will be one-way westbound to N. Main St.
• Vehicles will be allowed to park on both sides of the streets facing the one-way traffic flow.
• At the conclusion of the fireworks westbound traffic will only be available on Hamilton St, High St and Goold Street.
“The changes are being made in order to effectively manage the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic by the use of a limited one-way traffic plan,” RPD Sgt. Jessie Metoyer said in a written release. “This will increase safety and decrease the amount of wait time and congestion.”
