City of Racine officials are asking residents to help them spend over the next five years $11 million in community development funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Specifically, city residents are being asked to fill out a survey – either online or hard copy – by the middle of July that will help determine a list of priorities to address over the next five years. The areas citizens will be asked for feedback include:
- Neighborhood conditions
- Decent, safe and sanitary housing
- Affordable housing
- Street replacement/repairs
- Parks and recreational facilities
- Services and activities for youth, persons with disabilities, the elderly
- Homelessness prevention programs
- Assistance to businesses to create jobs
- Job training programs
“We expect to receive $11 million in community development funds from HUD over the next five years.”stated Mayor John Dickert in a written statement. “The city has discretion on how those funds will be used. The survey is the way the individual resident can influence and prioritize our plan for the use of the funds.”
The results of the survey and a draft of a five-year plan will be revealed later this fall.
