Whether or not JC Penney’s Racine store at Regency Mall will close is up in the air, but the property itself is for sale.
The listed price is $2.5 million for the 150,000 square feet store, according to a story in The Journal Times.
Natalie Hostetler with CBL Properties, owners of the mall, said she couldn’t offer any comment about the pending sale because JC Penney owns the building.
As for whether or not the store will close and/or employees will lose their jobs, company spokesperson Joey Thomas said he couldn’t offer any specifics on the sale beyond confirming it is listed.
“Yes, the retail property of our JCPenney store in Racine is listed for sale. There are no further details surrounding a potential sale beyond the listing,” he wrote in an email. “We cannot speculate potential sale timing, store closure or final financial benefit.”
Sears closed earlier this year, and this past April former mall Manager Curt Pruitt confirmed that Regency Mall is one of several CBL & Associates will sell in the next couple of years.
