Mount Pleasant Police Chief Tim Zarzecki (l) stands next to Officer Nicole Knierim and her K9 partner, Brutus, Monday when the announcement was made that Knierim’s first fundraising event brought in $10,700. “I did this fundraiser because I feel the K9 program is a valuable asset to the police department,” Knierim said. “Helping to keep funding available is my way in helping out. K9s are valuable and I’m so lucky to be a part of a K9 team.” The event was held at Roma Lodge on May 10 in two parts; the afternoon session was more family oriented and the evening dinner was geared more for adults. Knierim and Brutus are one of two K9 partners in the police department. Officer Dale Swart and Bones have served together for almost eight years.
