Road Construction

Traffic shutdown on Ohio Street changes direction Friday between Washington Avenue and 16th Street.

Northbound lanes – which have been closed since the end of May – will reopen while the southbound lanes will close, according to a story in The Journal Times.

The total reconstruction of the roadway was part of the City of Racine’s 2014 road projects budget and was estimated to cost $1.38 million. The lion’s share of that money – about 80 percent – is coming from the state Department of Transportation, and the city will pay about $276,000 when all is said and done.

Drivers will be directed west on Washington to Green Bay Road and south to 16th Street while work is underway.

Work is expected to complete by the end of August, in plenty of time for the new school year to begin.
