Three little lion cubs, born at the Racine Zoo on July 7, have yet to be named and you can help name them in the “Name the Cubs” contest.
Do these Transvaal lion cubs look like a Mavis, Morris and Morton? Or should Racine’s Pride be called something else?
If you’ve got an idea of what their names should be, “Name the Cub” contest forms will be available at noon on Aug. 6 at all of the Johnson Bank locations in the Racine area. The contest runs through Aug. 18. After the forms are collected, Racine Zoo staff and Johnson Bank officials will select the winners.
If your names are chosen, the Zoo and Johnson Bank staff will be giving out a prize package. The lion cubs’ new names will be announced at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21 outside the Zoo’s Vanishing Kingdom building.
“The cubs’ birth is an important achievement for our Zoo, the City of Racine, and surrounding communities,” said Jay Christie, president and chief executive officer, Racine Zoo. “The community has never let us down when it comes to creativity. We are confident all three names selected will convey the significance of these magnificent animals.”
Johnson Bank has supported the Racine Zoo and the lions since 1994.
“We’re excited to hear about the birth of the lion cubs and look forward to more news about Azizi’s cubs,” said Thomas Mahoney, Johnson Bank regional president.
Zoo members will be able to see the lion cubs at an appreciation night beginning at 10 a.m. Aug. 23 inside the Vanishing Kingdom Building, then daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Details about the public viewing will be announced next week.
