St. Catherine’s teacher Rachel Lantz will be on the field at Ohio State University Saturday to be recognized for her courage during her fight against breast cancer. Votes from around the Racine-area community helped boost Lantz into the top 15, her sister, Heather Wagy, told us.
“I wanted to let you know that my sister will be recognized on the field at the Buckeye game Saturday. Thanks for your help,” she wrote on the Racine County Eye Facebook page.
Editor’s note: We received this letter to the editor from Heather Wagy via our Facebook page.
Rachel is a 36 year old English teacher at St. Catherine’s High School in Racine. She is a mother, a community volunteer, and friend to many. In 2010, Rachel was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had to have two surgeries and 12 weeks of chemotherapy. Since diagnosis, and even now, she continues with monthly injections and daily medicine.
She is a huge football fan, graduate of The Ohio State University and bleeds “Scarlet and Gray.” The Ohio State University is having a “Salute Your Survivor” nomination contest. They plan to award 15 survivors with the ultimate Ohio State experience, which is based upon on-line voting via Facebook.
If my sister is one of the top 15 vote getters, she will be recognized on the field at half-time during the OSU vs. Rutgers game on October 18th. This would mean the absolute world to her and I thought it might be a positive thing for the Racine community to get behind. I am including the link to her “voting” Facebook page, which has the link to the online voting.
You can vote her up until 11:59 pm of October 10th. At the time of my writing this, she is actually in 12th place, but there are others fast approaching. Thank you for considering this. Again, this would make such a difference for her given all that she has endured, and continues to go through.
