Election 2014: Meet The 63rd Assembly District Candidates

Political newcomer Andy Mitchell and incumbent Robin Vos are running for the 63rd District during the election, which will be held Nov. 4.

Name: Andy Mitchell

How long have you lived in your district? 12 years

Ever held a political office before? No.

What made you want to seek this office? I have been unhappy with the direction the state has been going.

What is your educational background? B.A, in journalism, state license in special education and alternative education

Tell us about your civic involvement and any volunteering that you’ve done: I have been heavily involved in volunteering for political campaigns.

What makes you qualified for the office you are seeking? I care deeply for the people of the 63rd. I have become disgusted with the heavy-handed way that the governor and legislature have shown favoritism to the special interests–many from out of state–instead of the people they were elected to represent. The average person is working harder and seeing less for their efforts.

How long have you lived in your district? Lifelong Racine County resident

Ever held a political office before? Elected state representative for 63rd Assembly District since 2004, Racine County Board Member 1994-2004 (former chair of Finance and Personnel Committee), Student Regent on UW Board of Regents 1989-1991

What made you want to seek this office? As a lifelong resident of Racine County, I want to do everything I can to make the area an even better place to live, raise a family and run a business. I am proud that we’ve cut income taxes, lowered property taxes, and cracked down on food stamp fraud, but more needs to be done to move Wisconsin forward. I continue to hear from constituents that taxes are too high and we need more family supporting jobs in Racine County. I promise to do all that can be done to bring more jobs to the area and improve the business climate throughout the state. I will work to reform our schools to ensure every child gets a quality education and that means having Wisconsin-based educational standards. We also must make government more efficient and reduce taxes on hard working families.

What makes you qualified for the office you are seeking? It’s an honor to serve the 63rd Assembly District in Wisconsin State Assembly. I believe I have shown my constituents that their needs come first. I try to respond personally to every phone call and answer every e-mail that comes into the office. I have worked hard to reduce the tax burden on Racine County families and help provide a quality education to all children. I believe that I have earned the trust of the voters in delivering on my promise of smaller government, lower taxes and better schools. I ask for your support again on November 4th.
