Racine County Human Services Director Jonathan Delagrave Tuesday made the first of what he said would be regular visits to the Sturtevant Village Board if he’s elected County Executive next April.

During public comment, Delagrave introduced himself and gave a brief run-down of his experience and answered a question from Village President Steve Jansen.

“It’s important to take the lead and encourage municipalities to work together to attract businesses and revitalize the economy,” Jansen said, “Will you lead that effort like Jim has done these last few years?”

Delagrave said he would be his own person but would continue the trajectory on which current County Executive Jim Ladwig put the county.

“I have big shoes to fill, that’s for sure,” he said. “I will be my own person, but I will work hard to keep taxes down and for business development to bring companies to Racine County and help existing businesses grow. So, to answer your question, heck yes I will be Racine County’s biggest cheerleader.”

Ladwig announced last month he will resign his seat to take the helm of Racine Area Manufacturers and Commerce. Delagrave announced his candidacy just a few hours later.

Additional candidates have not come forward since Rep. Cory Mason, D-Racine, confirmed he will not seek the county’s highest elected office.
