Two men have been charged after police found synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia while they were conducting a welfare check on a family member of one of the men, according to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.
One of the men was found hiding himself and drugs under a blanket in the home.
Andrew Casper, 20, of Caledonia, was charged with bail jumping and possession of drug paraphernalia, and Zachary Cook, 19, of Racine, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.
If convicted of all charges, Casper faces up to 12 years in prison, and/or fined up to $10,500 because he was charged as a repeat offender. If Cook is convicted on his charge, he faces up to two years in prison and/or fined up to $500.
According to the criminal complaint, Caledonia Police were called to Casper’s parent’s home after another family member made suicidal statements at a residence in the 3900 block of County Trunk Highway H at 11:32 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. When Andrew answered the door, he acted suspicious and nervous by backing up out of sight and partially closing the door.
After Andrew told police that they could come inside he continued to act suspicious. When Andrew and the police entered a television room, they found Cook sitting in a chair under a blanket. Andrew was answering the officers’ questions when he kicked a glass pipe under the couch. At that point, the officer took Andrew into custody and removed the blanket off of Cook. Bags of synthetic marijuana, a fully packed glass pipe and second pipe were found under the couch and underneath Cook.
Andrew and Cook had multiple warrants for their arrest. Andrew was out on bail for an ongoing felony case where he was charged with receiving stolen property over $10,000.
“Both men seemed very dazed and confused as to what was even happening,” according to the complaint.
An attempt to locate was put out for the family member having mental health issues.
