Three men were in custody Friday night, booked into the Racine County Jail on various felony charges stemming from the shooting death of a 41-year-old man Thursday night.

A 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old man are both facing felony charges of 2nd degree intentional homicide, armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon. Another 24-year-old man is facing a single felony charge of 2nd degree intentional homicide.

In a written release from Racine police Sgt. Jessie Metoyer, investigators quick work chasing down leads are credited with the arrests of the suspects in this case.

“The quick capture of these suspects is the direct result of outstanding forensic work and detective follow up investigation,” she wrote. “The investigation is not over and citizens with information are urged to contact the Racine Police Department or Crime Stoppers.”

All suspects are from Racine, and they are not being named until they are formally charged in Racine County Circuit Court.

Racine police have confirmed that Maurice Carter, 41, from Chicago, suffered a single gunshot wound around 11 p.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of Grand Avenue. When officers arrived, they applied life-saving techniques before rescue crews transported the man to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary’s where he later died.

Scanner reports from the incident indicate police may believe there are two suspects involved and that roads were closed while police were on scene.

We will update this story as details become available.
