A 19-year-old Racine man claims he was high and can’t remember whether or not he sexually assaulted a young girl when she was nine, and he was a sophomore in high school.

Thomas Eickner was charged Thursday in Racine County Circuit Court with a single felony count of repeated sexual assault of the same child. If convicted, he faces up to 60 years in jail.

According to the criminal complaint, Racine police were called to a home Dec. 21 for a report of child sex assault. When officers arrived, the girl told them Eickner assaulted her 10 times over the course of a month two years ago and consisted primarily of oral sex.

Police say Eickner getting a girlfriend may have been the reason he stopped assaulting the girl. She said she didn’t tell anyone at the time because she didn’t understand what was happening and that Eickner might come after her. Officers say the girl said she never stopped thinking about the incidents and it was only after she saw Eickner for the first time in a long time that she got scared he might assault her again.

When officers questioned Eickner he admitted knowing the girl but said he couldn’t remember everything from that time in his life because he was high on pills and marijuana, the complaint reads. Eickner told police he could only remember small details that led him to believe something may have happened with the girl.

Eickner remains in the Racine County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is Jan. 21.
