The Supreme Court of the United States will hear gay marriage cases in April, and their decision could be felt nationwide.
Justices announced Friday they will hear arguments this spring based on cases from Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee, according to a story from USA Today.
Their ruling – expected before the current term expires in June – will decide if gay marriage is constitutional. Deciding for gay marriage would effectively end the debate and make marriage equality the law of the land in all 50 states.
Gay marriage is legal in 36 states, including Wisconsin. Same-sex couples started applying for marriage licenses in Racine County last summer.
