PoliceA 46-year-old woman is facing a felony hit and run charge, and a two-year-old child is in critical condition following a two-vehicle crash that happened at 2:44 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, according to a press release by the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

A Nissan Maxima was traveling eastbound on Durand Avenue when the driver tried to make a left hand turn on to Wood Road, but a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was traveling westbound smashed into the rear passenger door on the Maxima. The woman driving the pickup truck left the scene, but a witness was able to get the license plate and police stopped the woman a few miles away.

Two occupants traveling in the Maxima also reported having injuries, but those were determined to be minor. The two-year-old child, however, suffered serious injuries and the toddler was taken to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. All occupants were wearing seat belts, and the child was properly restrained in a car seat, according to the press release.

Mount Pleasant Police and the Wisconsin State Patrol are investigating the crash. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
