State & Spring Lights Out

Drivers who frequently find themselves at the intersection of State and Spring Streets should probably plan alternative routes for the next week or so.

The traffic signals there are out and have been replaced with stop signs because a car took out the light control box.

Jonathan Worden, traffic technician with the City of Racine, confirmed in a voicemail that a weekend accident caused the outage.

“Traffic lights are out at State and Spring because someone plowed into our control cabinet over the weekend,” he said. “We are waiting for a new control cabinet so those lights won’t be up for a couple of weeks.”

Each light control panel is custom-built for the intersection it will help control so replacing them takes longer than just placing an order.

This is the third accident in the last couple of months that took out traffic lights at busy intersections.
