The Women’s Resource Center is hosting a rally to bring awareness to the problem of teen dating violence called “Rally for Love” at the teen dating violence awareness conference, which will be held Friday, Feb. 13.
“Teen dating violence affects one in three teens in their romantic relationships” says Olivia Osborne, WRC’s SafeStart Specialist. “The Rally for Love” and the “Teen Dating Violence Awareness Conference” were created to bring awareness and education into our community.”
Attendees are encouraged to wear orange, the awareness color for teen dating violence.
The rally will be held at 2 p.m. inside City Hall in the Common Council room, room # 205. Mayor John Dickert will give a presentation proclaiming February as teen dating violence awareness month. Afterward, participants will attend the conference, which will be held in the Great Lakes Room at Gateway Technical College.
The featured speakers are Danny Thang Ho, R.E.A.C.H. Coordinator and Cody Warner, Youth Outreach Prevention Coordinator, both from End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin, Wisconsin’s Domestic Violence Coalition.
Breakout sessions will include topics such as healthy dating, empowering teens, and what we can do as a community to eradicate teen dating violence.
Participation in the rally and/or the conference is free however registration is required for the conference portion. Adults and teens are welcome to attend either event or both events.
