Maple syrup time. A sure sign of spring is the start of the Sugarin’ Off Pancake Breakfasts at River Bend Nature Center, 3600 N. Green Bay Road, Caledonia. The pancakes are served with genuine maple syrup from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Sunday and continuing on Sundays, March 8, 15 and 22. The cost $8; kids ages 5 and younger eat free. New at the Theatre Guild. A sentimental comedy is on tap at the Racine Theatre Guild, 2519 Northwestern Ave. “The Dixie Swim Club” spans 33 years in the lives of five Southern women who became friends on their college swim team and continue to get together, enjoy each other’s company and meddle in each other’s lives. The play opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday and runs weekends through Sunday, March 15. Admission is $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and $12 for students. Home improvement. Get inspired for that building or remodeling project at The Journal Times 31st Annual Home Expo this Saturday and Sunday at Festival Hall, 5 Fifth St. You’ll see dozens of local businesses and services, seminars, giveaways and kids activities. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3 for adults; youth under age 17 get in free. There is free parking in the Festival Hall lot.
Here come the brides. The bridal show season continues at the Sixth Annual Bridal Showcase this Sunday at Veterans Terrace, 589 Milwaukee Ave., Burlington. It includes two fashion shows, free hair and makeup demonstrations, free wine, food and dessert samples plus giveaways. The show runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door. Not an ice show. “Celebrities on Ice” may sound like an ice show, but it’s more than that! The Downtown Racine Corp. has recruited guest bartenders to mix up icy cocktails from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at ReefPoint Brewhouse, Henry & Wanda’s and Dewey’s Restaurant and Sports Pub. Their tips and a portion of the bar proceeds will help fund Downtown Racine special events like the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Downtown Holiday Parade, Music on the Monument and the Public Art Project. Soup for a cause. Delicious soup is right around the corner at Empty Bowls coming Monday, March 2 to Festival Hall, 5 Fifth St. Racine’s top chefs and restaurants are donating soup and bread. Just $15 buys a soup meal in a hand-painted bowl that you can keep. To-go orders are also available. The soup will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m. Empty Bowls benefits area homeless assistance and hunger programs.
