The Racine Police Department is embarking on a full court press to solve crimes and increase community awareness about certain issues.
Using a simple video app, Lt. Al Days and his public information team are making short videos to try and snag the attention of citizens. The first in their series recalls the murder of Joseph Walker, the man shot during the armed robbery of the American Legion bar last May.
Days introduces the subject of the video as a “brutal, senseless act of violence.” He then pieces together video, photos, and what police know about that night before asking the public to call the police or Crime Stoppers with information. The video is just over a minute, but it gets the point across.
“The cold case update of Joseph Walker was our first attempt to produce a release where we make a personal plea for help with the use of pictures, video, and voice over,” he explained. “Not to lose focus, or have the method get more attention than the message, Joseph Walker’s mother, family, and kids, deserve justice and closure. The Racine Police Department feels every media method possible should be used to give this family what they deserve.”
There will be other video topics, Days told Racine County Eye, focusing on specific target areas the department feels need some extra attention and line up with crime statistics from the FBI that will be released early next week.
Almost $7,000 in reward money through Crime Stoppers is still available to the person(s) who provide the tips that lead to the arrest of the Walker homicide suspects.
