The concert, which will be held April 18, is a fundraiser for the Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin, a group that helps homeless veterans by furnishing their homes and operating a food pantry.

Jeff Gustin, one of the organizers of the concert, had been working with different hospitals and programs that help veterans for years when he heard that the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative was “completely swamped” and veterans had a two- to three-week waiting period to get help in Racine and Kenosha.

That’s how the Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin group got started in Racine.

“I’m not a veteran, but I’m thankful for the things they do,” Gustin said. “A lot of these guys have been homeless a while and they have no money to get furnishings or beds. So we collect those items and have them delivered to their homes.”

Last year the group helped about 250 people last year and this year they’ve helped about 60 people with furnishings and the food pantry.

The Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin has also started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for hygiene items.
