Arroyo close shaveAccused armed robber and one-time fugitive Jesus Arroyo, 37, has died.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Arroyo’s death last month at Dodge County Detention Facility. No details were released about how he died.

While Arroyo’s death is still under investigation by the Dodge County Medical Examiner’s office, it is suspected as being suicide, said Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt in an email.

Arroyo earlier this month confessed to at least 11 armed robberies around the greater-Racine area as part of a larger robbery ring – in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties as well – involving members of the Spanish Cobra street gang. He had been in custody at the Racine County Jail since last June after escaping custody during transport and being apprehended 12 hours later.

Arroyo was being transported to Racine from Milwaukee last summer on a probation when he escaped. He was also under investigation by the FBI for possible connection to the armed robberies to which he reportedly confessed and a 2013 murder in Milwaukee.

Online prison records show he was transferred to Dodge Correctional Facility from Racine in September 2014.

Arroyo was to be sentenced May 11 in Racine County Circuit Court on the escape charge. He plead guilty to the charges last September, but because he is now deceased, the charges against him will be formally dismissed.
